I remember standing on the bridge watching the trains go by below
We were young we were carefree, we didn’t care to know
In our lives there’d be highs and lows it never crossed our minds
Now I can’t see ahead, I’m down & unsure so I keep looking behind
I remember my neighbors living next door, they had so little but gave so much more
They had a hard life but I was too young to see, all I remember is how kind they were always to me
That’s just the way it is
That’s just the way
That’s just the way
It is

As I get older I seem to miss the simple things that made me smile
There’s no guarantee if I’ll have it again or might have to wait a while
People come and people go, it’s an ever-changing tapestry
Some go far away before you know, some show you what love can be
There was this girl with such a passion for life, one day it disappeared, I’d never know why
Her sweet little brother was ashamed to be gay, he wandered far and wide before he learned that it’s OK
That’s just the way it is
That’s just the way
That’s just the way
It is

Bridge:
Some dreams are made, some dreams get shattered
Through it all, only kindness matters
-
I remember the bridge and walking on it with my friends
Some came from broken homes, some grew up too fast to be men
Their broken hearts lay on the wayside while life just kept going on
There was no one to show them love yet somehow they carried on
In my reflection I seem to recognize, my father’s hands, my mother’s eyes
I hear a lullaby from a long time ago, it’s all in the memories the ones I can’t afford to let go.
That’s just the way it is
That’s just the way
That’s just the way
It is
