I was tired yesterday
I didn’t know I’d be here today
It was a blur but now it’s clear
Why I was so dismayed
I’d put everything at stake
The gamble was a mistake
They rolled the dice I pulled the cards
The hand I held was so bizarre
Where is the joker?
This makes no sense
It’s a dead end dead end dead end dead end dead end
So I salvaged what had remained
Hit the bottom made a change
For the stars to shine
The sun has to go
I treated life just like a game
Laid out my cards, staked my claim
Moved my pieces, rearranged
Gave up New York for San Francisco
San Francisco
–
I’m still tired today
From what happened yesterday
Wish I’d learned to break the rules
Wish I’d learned how to play
The pawn was the first to go
In a gambit I didn’t know
The bishop’s corrupt the queen’s a crook
then the knight killed the rook
Now the king is
Left with no defense
It’s a dead end dead end dead end dead end dead end
So I salvaged what had remained
Hit the bottom made a change
The brighter the sun
The stronger the shadow
I treated life just like a game
Laid out my cards, staked my claim
Moved my pieces, rearranged
Gave up New York for San Francisco
San Francisco
Bridge –
If you wanna go up
First you got to be down
A king will always be a king
Even if he’s lost his crown
I ran out of luck
Until I hit the wall
On one city I bet too high
The other caught my fall
–
So I’ll keep my faith
and take the token
I may lose again
but I’ll never be broken
I treated life just like a game
Laid out my cards, staked my claim
Moved my pieces, rearranged
Gave up New York for San Francisco
San Francisco
San Francisco
San Francisco
